What to expect as a new client. . .

As a new client at Footsteps and possibly new to counseling, you may have some questions. If you don't find answers here or in our FAQs, please call us. We are happy to help.

Scheduling your first appointment…

Please call one of our intake coordinators who will gather your basic information and match you with one of our therapists. We use several factors to determine the best match between clients and therapists. The first, of course, are your individual counseling needs. We do everything possible to connect you with a therapist who has the expertise to effectively help you reach your goals. Insurance is also a factor. Our therapists participate in most major insurance networks, and we also welcome private-pay clients. For those in need of our services who cannot afford them, we are often able to offer financial assistance. Finally, we consider your schedule and therapist availability.  We offer early morning and evening hours to be as accommodating as possible.

Before your first visit…

You will be asked to complete consent forms and clinical paperwork through our user-friendly, personalized patient portal - MIYO. The patient portal offers convenient features such as: completion of consent forms, intake paperwork, and assessment instruments, as well as online payments and secure communication with your therapist.

During the first visit…

Your therapist will perform an assessment and together you can develop a plan to guide your work together. This plan will also estimate the duration of counseling to achieve your therapy goals. Many individuals experience significant benefits from brief therapy, which can last a few months. Others may find long-term therapy, extending for a year or longer, to be more beneficial. Session frequency may vary from weekly or bi-weekly, to monthly.
