How do I refer someone to Footsteps?
We welcome new clients. Most of our clients find us through referrals from friends, pastors, or physicians. If you know someone who might benefit from our services, invite them to contact us at 804.715.3215.
How long will I have to wait to see someone?
Appointments are scheduled as soon as possible based on therapist availability. This might mean a week or two, or possibly longer depending on the availability of the counselor who best suits your needs. We do our best to give priority in emergency situations, when possible.
Will I be able to choose my own therapist?
We will collaborate with you to select an appropriate counselor, depending on the issues you would like to address, the expertise of the clinician, as well as therapist availability. Other factors may include your health insurance, when you can come, or the office location you would prefer.
How much does therapy cost?
Our fees are consistent with other mental health practices in the Richmond area. Cost of service is often dictated by your insurance plan and treatment duration. As a non-profit organization, we offer financial assistance to those in need. We can discuss your specific circumstances when you call for an appointment.
Will my visits be covered by insurance?
Most of our clients use health insurance to pay for services. Since policies and benefits vary, we will contact your insurance carrier after scheduling your first appointment. Clients are responsible for charges not covered by their insurance; these charges are payable at the time services are rendered. Please note, we are NOT in network w/ Medicare or Virginia Premier.

What is a Good Faith Estimate?
You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate explaining the expected cost of service. Footsteps is committed to providing a Good Faith Estimate to uninsured individuals, those not using insurance and self-pay clients prior to services being rendered. If you have questions or concerns about your individual costs, please contact our billing department. For more information about these guidelines please visit: https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises.

How long does therapy take?
The length of treatment depends on many factors but is primarily determined by the nature of the issue and level of motivation. What may take a few sessions for one person, could take longer for others based on factors that impact healing, such as symptom severity or duration of the problem. It is generally recommended to continue with counseling as long as it is helpful. For some individuals, it may take weeks, and for others, months or years. Counseling appointments typically last 45-60mins.
